Why MathMatters™ is an important part of the community.
MATHMATTERS™ is a City Youth Inc. project that focuses on serving at risk and minority students who did not score proficiency in math content , are currently in need of assistance with math content and/or attend a school which exhibits an equity score of six or lower, as determined by the Education Equality Index.
Accessibility is Key
Tutoring locations are strategically positioned with-in the communities the children reside. This has been done to eliminate barriers associated with transportation.
Local volunteers graciously volunteer their time to ensure each child is given a chance to improve their educational experience.
Supportive Educational Resources
The average cost of a private tutor is $40/hour, an expense many families can not afford. MathMatters™ is an independent, non-profit charitable, educational resource available to registered members of City Youth.
Students from any school are welcomed to participate in tutoring at our Neighborhood Education HUB or alternate tutoring site listed here on the website.
We seek to bring some of the area’s most passionate students and professionals to a community of youth and help foster an understanding and love for Mathematics. Improving our participant’s performance is our number one goal.
● Increased math achievement for participating students through individualized and small group tutoring.
● Improved participant exposure via rigorous practice testing.
● Mastery of grade level content prior to completion of the school year.
● Leverage business, university, foundation and peer exposure to increase volunteer engagement and tutoring hours to 2400 hours.
